Dimensional Letters & Plaques

Depth, finish, and presence, built to reflect the quality of your brand.

Dimensional Letters & Plaques — United Signs

Dimensional Letters & Plaques for Prestige

Dimensional letters and plaques do something flat signage cannot. They give your brand physical weight. Whether it is a corporate entrance, a hotel lobby, a building directory, or an office suite, the right sign in the right material tells people something about your business before they have spoken to anyone. United Signs fabricates every piece to exact specifications, handled entirely by our team. What you approve in the design is what goes on the wall, finished and installed by the same people who built it.

We work across every scale of project, from a single nameplate in a law firm reception area to a full interior sign program across a multi-building campus. The material, the finish, the depth, and the mounting method all depend on the space and what the sign needs to accomplish. We figure that out with you before fabrication begins.

The difference between dimensional signage that looks right and dimensional signage that looks cheap comes down to tolerances. How clean the edges are, how consistent the finish is, how precisely the letters align on the wall. We control every one of those variables in-house, which is why the quality you see in the sample is the quality you get on the wall.

Dimensional Letter and Plaque Types We Fabricate

Dimensional signage covers a wide range of applications. Here is what we build and where each type is typically used.

Flat-Cut Dimensional Letters

Individual letters cut from metal, acrylic, or PVC and mounted directly to the wall with standoffs to create shadow and depth. The most versatile option across interior and exterior applications. Available in aluminum, stainless steel, brass, bronze, and acrylic in virtually any finish.

Backlit Halo Letters

Solid-faced letters with LED illumination routed to the back, creating a halo glow on the wall surface behind each character. A high-end look common in hotel lobbies, corporate reception areas, and any environment where lighting is part of the design intent.

Acrylic Letters and Logos

Laser-cut or CNC-routed acrylic characters are available in a full range of colors and finishes, including matte, gloss, metallic, and frosted. Acrylic is lightweight, cost-effective, and well suited to interior branding walls, office directories, and suite identification.

Metal Letters and Logos

Fabricated from aluminum, stainless steel, brass, or bronze with brushed, polished, painted, or powder-coated finishes. Used when the application calls for a material that communicates permanence. Common in financial institutions, law firms, healthcare campuses, and government facilities.

HDU and Carved Plaques

High-density urethane foam carved to replicate the look of wood or stone without the weight or cost. Painted or gilded finishes. Used for exterior monument signage, building nameplates, and heritage or memorial applications where a traditional carved aesthetic is appropriate.

Dimensional Logos and Brand Marks

Custom fabricated brand marks, crests, seals, and graphic elements built in three dimensions and mounted to walls, pylons, or monuments. Every element is engineered to your brand standards and fabricated to hold its geometry at the finished size.

Plaques

Cast aluminum, bronze, or engraved plaques for building identification, donor recognition, directional applications, and memorial use. Available in standard and custom sizes with a range of finish and mounting options.

Is Dimensional Lettering Right for You?

Dimensional letters and plaques are not the right call for every application. Here is a straightforward look at where they work and where a different approach might make more sense.

Dimensional signage makes sense if

  • You have a lobby, reception area, building entrance, or exterior facade where the sign is a primary brand touchpoint. These are the locations where three-dimensional depth and material quality register with the people walking through.
  • You are fitting out a new office, clinic, hotel, or campus building and want the interior sign program to reflect the same level of quality as the rest of the build-out.
  • You need signage that will hold up over years without fading or losing its finish. Metal and quality acrylic dimensional letters outlast vinyl and printed alternatives by a significant margin.
  • You are replacing existing signage that no longer matches your current brand identity, whether due to a rebrand, a renovation, or a change in ownership.

Dimensional signage may not be the right fit if

  • You need temporary or seasonal signage. Dimensional letters are a permanent installation. If the application requires flexibility or frequent changes, a different signage type is a better starting point.
  • Your space is small or the viewing distance is very short, and flat branded print graphics would serve the purpose at a lower cost. We will tell you honestly when that is the case.
  • You are looking for exterior road-visible signage that needs to be read from a distance at night. In that case, illuminated channel letters or a pylon sign will do more work.

Not sure what your space calls for? We will review your location, brand requirements, and budget, and come back with a clear recommendation before any design work begins.

Why Choose United Signs for Dimensional Letters & Plaques

Premium Materials

Every piece is built from materials chosen for your space, your finish, and how it needs to hold up.

Sculptural Design

Three-dimensional lettering adds weight and presence to any entrance, the kind flat signage simply cannot replicate.

Precision Fabrication

What you approve in the design is precisely what goes on the wall.

What Goes Into Every Piece We Build

The quality of dimensional signage is determined entirely by what happens before it reaches the wall.

Stainless Steel

Used when the application calls for a polished or brushed metal finish that withstands high-traffic or exterior environments. Stainless steel letters are fabricated to tight tolerances and finished to a consistent sheen across every character in the set.

Bronze and Brass

sed for plaques and applications where a traditional, permanent material is part of the intent. Bronze and brass cast plaques are produced to mold specifications and finished with patinas, lacquers, or polished surfaces depending on the look required.

Standoffs and Mounting Hardware

The way dimensional letters are mounted affects how they look as much as the letters themselves. We spec the right standoff depth and hardware for each application so the shadow line is consistent and the installation is structurally sound for the surface it is going into.

LED Illumination

Where backlit or halo illumination is specified, we use commercial-grade LED strips rated for the application, whether interior or exterior. LED systems are sealed and wired before shipment so installation at the site is clean and straightforward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stainless steel, aluminum, acrylic, wood, and other materials. Material selection depends on indoor/outdoor placement and desired aesthetic.

Yes. Backlit, edge-lit, and front-lit options are all available depending on the look you're going for and where the sign will be placed.

Yes, when built with the right materials for the environment. We select materials based on where the sign will live. Indoor and outdoor applications have different requirements, and we account for both.

Thatu2019s what the consultation is for. We review your space, understand what you need the sign to do, and recommend the right approach before any design work begins.

Metal dimensional letters fabricated with the right gauge material and finish can last 15 to 20 years or longer with minimal maintenance. Acrylic letters in interior applications will hold their finish for 10 years or more under normal conditions. Outdoor acrylic is not recommended for long-term exterior use without UV-stabilized coatings.

Yes. We work from your brand standards, Pantone references, and exact font files. Every character is fabricated to your specifications, not adapted to whatever is easiest to produce.

After shop drawings are approved, fabrication typically runs 3 to 4 weeks depending on material, size, and project complexity. We give you a timeline at the start of the project so you can plan installation around it.

In most cases yes, though it depends on the mounting method and the wall surface. Letters mounted with standoffs can typically be removed with minimal damage to the wall. Adhesive-mounted letters are more difficult to remove cleanly. We can advise on the best mounting approach if future flexibility is a consideration.
