If you are a sign industry project manager with your own customers, profit sharing may be part of what you look for in your next role. United Signs has an opportunity for up to a 50% payout of net project profit under agreed terms, and this post explains how it works.
Who this is for
This post is for sign industry project managers who:
- Have at least 3 years of actual project management experience in the sign industry
- Have their own customers or ongoing client relationships
- Want to explore a new opportunity with a company that handles the full scope of signage work
However, general sales experience alone does not meet the requirement. We are looking for people who have managed signage projects from kickoff through close-out.
Why customer relationships matter
Customers stay with people they trust. If a client calls you when they need a new monument sign, a rebrand across several locations or an LED display, that trust came from how you handled their earlier projects.
Strong relationships usually come from the same habits that make a good project manager:
- Clear communication when schedules shift
- Honest answers on cost and timing
- Approvals and permits that keep moving
- Installations that finish the way you promised
So if you have those relationships, we would like to hear about them.
Project profit in plain terms
Before talking about payout, it helps to separate two numbers.
Revenue is what the customer pays for the project.
Net project profit is what remains after you subtract the project’s costs. For example, those costs include materials, fabrication, vendors, permits, shipping and installation.
The payout we discuss is based on net project profit, not revenue. The exact definition of net profit, which work is eligible and when payouts are made are set out in a written agreement, and we will go through them with you directly. The sign project manager profit sharing we discuss is based on net project profit, not revenue.
How Project Manager Profit Sharing Works
The opportunity is up to a 50% payout of net project profit under agreed compensation terms.
A few points to keep in mind:
- The percentage can vary by project and by person, so “up to” does not mean 50% every time
- We calculate it on net profit, so it does not depend on what the customer pays
- We do not guarantee it, and it depends on the agreed terms
- We do not promise customer leads or a set workload
Profit Sharing Example (Hypothetical)
The numbers below are hypothetical and for illustration only. They are not a promise, an offer or a quote, and real projects and terms will differ.
Say a project has these figures:
| Item | Amount |
| Customer pays | $20,000 |
| Project costs | $14,000 |
| Net project profit | $6,000 |
If the agreed terms set the payout at 50% of net project profit for this project, the payout would be $3,000. If the agreed percentage were lower, the payout would be lower.
Notice that the payout is not 50% of the $20,000. It is based on the $6,000 left after costs. That is why careful cost control matters as much as winning the work.
Why project management skill still matters
When payout depends on net profit, how you run the project affects the result. Experienced PMs know where margins slip:
- Scope changes that never get priced
- Vendor costs that creep up
- Rework from unclear drawings or missed site conditions
- Delays that add installation costs
If you already watch these closely, a net-profit structure may feel familiar.
Questions worth asking us
When you reach out, expect an open conversation. You may want to ask about:
- How net project profit is defined
- Which projects and costs are included
- When payouts are made
- How customer relationships are handled
- How the remote arrangement works
We would rather answer these upfront than leave anything unclear.
No customers of your own?
You are still welcome. Candidates without their own customers are also encouraged to apply, as long as they meet the 3-year project management requirement.
